Today started with a Mega Run/Swim that took us all over the Cape. With Remo in the lead, we ran through trees and swam across the surrounding cuts. While waiting for the group to catch up, Remo led us in Island School jumping jacks, 8 count bodybuilders and other exercises. This morning two research groups had Human Ecology, where Continue reading

Cacique Update- July 7, 2010
Today started off very differently than most. Instead of a 6:00 AM work out, we were granted thirty more minutes of rest. Our exercise of the day was a free-dive at Tunnel Rock. With no air supply it was hard for many to make it to the ocean floor, but the site’s beauty was visible at any level of the water column. After returning to campus for breakfast, we Continue reading

Cacique Update- July 6, 2010
Our day began at 6:30 this morning—a mini sleep-in for us! After rolling out of bed, we hopped into boats and headed for the sandbar for a morning exercise/lesson. Upon arriving, we ran through the water to a monument where we had a fun lesson on ooids (a type of sand), complete with a skit/dance on the forming of the sand in the Bahamas. After the run back, we snorkeled to Continue reading

After a fun 4th of July celebration on the sand bar last night, a lot of the girls had trouble waking up this morning, but we all made it to morning circle on time. Mister Master Puff Daddy (soon to be Doctor) Aaron led us in our morning exercise, a run to Page Creek. Page Creek is a tidal creek where we learned about the mangrove habitat (which the flats research Continue reading

HAPPY 4TH OF JULY/ HAPPY BIRTHDAY AMERICA! The first annual Island School 4th of July fireworks extravaganza on the sand bar went down in history with s’mores, a bonfire, and LOTS of fun.
Today, like usual, we woke up nice and early at 5:30 for our first Continue reading
Cacique Update- July 3, 2010
Today was the first time that each Island School student had the luxury of sleeping in and not having to workout at sunrise. It also marked the 2nd day of scuba diving and it’s safe to say that all have excelled tremendously. All (or should I say most) of the fears of scuba were left back at the boat house and, instead, we took positive attitudes with us. There was so Continue reading

Today was an amazing day. Swimming in the Triangle Cut was a great morning exercise. Before we started our long swim, Remo taught us all the correct techniques to glide through the water. After the swim we rushed back to campus for breakfast. Everyone was excited because today was the very first day of SCUBA diving. You could tell that most people Continue reading

At the start of our day we met at six o’clock to lead the morning circle. Shortly after that we headed out to the bike shed to collect our bikes for the morning two mile ride, but to everyone’s surprise the bike shed was locked, leaving us no choice but to jog the two mile journey! Our journey ended at High Rock where we were all encouraged to take the leap of faith Continue reading
Cacique Update- June 30, 2010
Today was a true day for firsts as we ventured out on the first morning exercise of the semester. The water was cold as we entered the snorkeling spot right off shore of Boy’s Dorm Beach. Each of us buddied up with a new friend, and in our pairs we explored the wonders of the ocean. After swimming out to a nearby shipwreck, we passed around some of the interesting Continue reading
