HAPPY 4TH OF JULY/ HAPPY BIRTHDAY AMERICA! The first annual Island School 4th of July fireworks extravaganza on the sand bar went down in history with s’mores, a bonfire, and LOTS of fun.
Today, like usual, we woke up nice and early at 5:30 for our first run/swim of the term. We swam across 4 different cuts of water, climbed a wall, jumped off some rocks and ran all the way in between combined with crazy awesome ab workouts.
We then had breakfast and went off to research for 3 hours. The flats group (both caciques) learned about oxygen diffusion, the sharks group got rained out in the tidal creeks, the aquaculture group memorized fishes, and the aquaponics group played with tilapia.
Brunch was eggs, bacon, and toast and then off we went to our last confined water SCUBA dive. Of course, it was breathtakingly amazing.
After returning to shower, we all dressed up and took 4th of July pictures. We then went to the dining hall for an all-American dinner of hamburgers, hotdogs, macaroni and cheese, chips, and soda.
After dinner, we all did a costume change and headed a mile out to the sandbar for some partying and fun. It as really cool to see the ocean at night and it was nice not to have any bugs around! We continued to celebrate with American activities and grand finale of an awesome fireworks show courtesy of Chris and Caleb.
All-in-all it was an AMAZING day and an amazing first time event for the Island School!
Being cacique for such a big event was crazy. The caciqueship was passed on to Lesley and Liza for tomorrow.
