A number of interested students gathered together with Teacher’s Conference alum, Patrick Hagarman, IS alumni Nate Smith-Ide (F’10), Ellen Eberhardt (F’11), and Director of Admissions, Sharon Jarboe to hear about the school. Alumni in NYC Give Back After Hurricane Sandy
This past weekend, Island School alumni in the New York City area Kate Gibson (F’04) and Molly Lawson (F’00) gathered a group of their friends to volunteer with the Sandy relief efforts. They were put straight to work and spent the day delivering food and supplies to victims displaced by Sandy in Brookyln and the Rockaways. Kate admitted that seeing the devastation first hand was “a huge reality check but it feels great to be on the ground and helping out in the community.” Way to go, guys! You are doing The Island School proud!

Have One On Us!
[slideshow]
This week, Island School alumni 21 and older gathered in various cities across the US and Bahamas to “Have One On Us”! These events were hosted by the members of the Alumni Advisory Board in an effort to establish stronger regional alumni groups by reconnecting with old friends and getting to know one another, as well as promote CONCHtribution. The first one was in Boston on Wednesday night. Despite the snow and cold weather, 17 alumni, ranging from Fall 1999 to Spring 2006, weathered the storm, in true Island School fashion, to meet up and establish some cross-semester relationships in the region.
On Thursday evening, members of the Alumni Advisory Board hosted events in Denver, San Francisco, and Nassau! These are relatively uncharted territories for Island School alumni events so it was very exciting to have such successful events in each of those locations. Continue reading

Alumni Spotlight: Jake Koetsier (F’08) & Liz Marinaro (F’06)!
Alumni Jake Koetsier (F’08) and Liz Marinaro (F’06) both attend Eckerd College in St. Petersburg, FL. Last Saturday, they ran a booth for Eckerd’s natural science collegium at the St. Petersburg FL science festival. The natural sciences collegium is composed of the marine science, biology, physics, and chemistry department at Eckerd College. Their collegium got to help kids learn how to use microscopes, as well as teach them some marine biology and geology by showing them ocean core samples and having a horseshoe crab touch tank. Eckerd prides itself on being green and raising awareness about our oceans and environment. The annual St. Petersburg science festival at the University of South Florida gathers local scientists and students to teach families about a variety science subjects and to promote STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) learning. Way to keep The Island School spirit alive!

The admissions and alumni relations teams, made up of Sharon Jarboe, Hannah Mauck, and Cam Powel, are road tripping through New England this week visiting some of our students’ sending schools, as well as our Island School alumni enrolled in universities along the East Coast. We will be writing blogs at the end of each day, complete with pictures, videos, and tweets of our travels!
When we visit the secondary schools, we will make a presentation to the student body and meet with some staff members so they get a better idea of The Island School program. This week, we will be visiting the following schools: Rocky Hill School (East Greenwich, RI), the Wheeler School (Providence, RI), Middlebury Union High School (Middlebury, VT), Hanover High School (Hanover, NH), Yarmouth High School (Yarmouth, ME), Freeport High School (Freeport, ME) and North Yarmouth Academy (Yarmouth, ME).
At the various universities we visit along the way, we are getting together with our Island School alumni Continue reading
