On 7/13 the community woke up and one group went to play water polo while the other group went to kayak prep. Then we had chores and then headed off to breakfast. After breakfast we returned as a whole community at our circle and finished up kayak prep.  This led up to lunch time and after lunch time K1 left. About 45 minutes later K2 left to begin their voyage.

Three days ago, we left school for our Down Island Trip at approximately 8 am. Three vans, 28 people, and countless luggage headed to our first stop: the famous Mr. Sand’s bakery. Not only was it the best bread we’ve ever tasted, but we also got a taste of royalty as we heard about Mr. Sand’s adventure to Prince Charles’ wedding. Today started with a Mega Run/Swim that took us all over the Cape. With Remo in the lead, we ran through trees and swam across the surrounding cuts. While waiting for the group to catch up, Remo led us in Island School jumping jacks, 8 count bodybuilders and other exercises. Today started off very differently than most.  Instead of a 6:00 AM work out, we were granted thirty more minutes of rest. Our exercise of the day was a free-dive at Tunnel Rock. With no air supply it was hard for many to make it to the ocean floor, but the site’s beauty was visible at any level of the water column. Our day began at 6:30 this morning—a mini sleep-in for us! After rolling out of bed, we hopped into boats and headed for the sandbar for a morning exercise/lesson. Upon arriving, we ran through the water to a monument where we had a fun lesson on ooids (a type of sand), complete with a skit/dance on the forming of the sand in the Bahamas. Today was the first time that each Island School student had the luxury of sleeping in and not having to workout at sunrise. It also marked the 2nd day of  scuba diving and it’s safe to say that all have excelled tremendously. Shortly after that we headed out to the bike shed to collect our bikes for the morning two mile ride, but to everyone’s surprise the bike shed was locked, leaving us no choice but to jog the two mile journey!
