This morning our run to High Rock was canceled for weather reasons, so we all ran the Loop-about 4 miles. This was a challenge for almost everyone; we hadn’t had morning exercise in a few days, and we’d never done anything more than two miles. Despite this, everyone finished at the flagpole with the rest of the community cheering him or her on. Even when our last finisher came in during chore time, everyone abandoned what they were doing in order to cheer her on. The run was followed by classes, and in the afternoon everyone met with their research groups. My group-archaeology-had a lively discussion as to the origins of the Lucayans based on our readings. We then examined two very different conch shells and tried to figure out which was older. The rest of the day passed by quickly and everyone put his or her study hours to good use.

During the first loop run this morning, I found a friend near the back of the pack who was struggling. He said he had never run four miles before, his knees were hurting, and it seemed as though he was bored out of his mind. I felt it my duty as a cacique, a friend, and a slightly stronger runner to stay with him until the end of the run. We had fun talking about our common interests and I think I helped get him off his pains of running.
