We woke up to yet another gorgeous fall morning in Vermont, ready to take on day three of our week-long New England tour. The Fargo family (Taylor Fargo, F’04) had been generous enough to welcome us into their Burlington home for the night and although it was difficult to leave the warmth and coziness of their beautiful house, we were excited for the day ahead! We arrived in Hanover, New Hampshire in the late morning in time for our meeting at Hanover High School, which has sent a number of Island School students over the years, including a student who is an IS student right now (Sam Hastings, F’12)! The school was beautiful and it was fascinating to learn about how the school is governed democratically by the students–1 of only 2 schools in the United States!
By recommendation of not only the staff at Hanover High School, but also by some of our Island School alumni studying at Dartmouth College in Hanover, NH, we sat down for lunch at Molly’s with two of our friends from recent semesters, Eliza Becker (SP’10) and Gigi Anderson (SP’11). It was a very entertaining lunch with LOTS of laughs as we all told stories of the bizarre things we did on our solos during the 8-day kayak trip.
After saying goodbye to the alumni, and the beautiful town of Hanover, we hopped back in our zippy red rental car to drive our final long drive of the expedition to Portland, Maine. If you are in Maine and would like to catch up with us, let us know by emailing alumni@islandschool.org! We will be at Yarmouth High School and Freeport High School Thursday morning, Bowdoin College for lunch, and holding an admissions reception at the Becker home in Yarmouth at 6pm Thursday evening. On Friday morning, after we visit with North Yarmouth Academy, we will make our way north to visit alumni at Colby College and Bates College in the afternoon. We would love to see you!
Stay tuned for more adventures tomorrow!
